DBS Cymru is the registered Disclosure and Barring (DBS) Umbrella Body for the charity Mental Health Matters Wales (MHM Wales) based in Bridgend, South Wales.

In August 2018, MHM Wales acquired the registered umbrella body known as CRB Wales, which has been operating since February 2002 as a criminal Record Bureau (CRB) Umbrella Body. Since the acquisition, DBS Cymru has continued to provide its comprehensive DBS service, maintaining a steady and loyal customer base while facilitating DBS checks for new clients.

As a reputable umbrella body DBS Cymru offers services to organisations, businesses looking to conduct Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks on their employees or volunteers.

These checks are specifically designed to safeguard vulnerable groups and protect public safety by disclosing information regarding individuals’ criminal records.

DBS Cymru consistently adheres to the DBS code of Practice and relevant legislation, such as the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, to ensure these checks are conducted in compliance with the law.

The range of service offered by DBS Cymru caters to the diverse requirements of various organisation to provide standard and enhanced checks. MHM Wales is an independent registered Umbrella Body and does not receive any additional funding for the service it provides. Consequently, we rely entirely on our administration fee for continuation of our service.

• Our counter signatories are always available to give up to date and concise guidance of the DBS process over the phone or by email.

• We will thoroughly check all applications to ensure no information is omitted or errors present. Our aim is to countersign and submit each application to the DBS within one working day of us receiving the application, provided the application has been completed correctly and you have assured us that the applicant's identity has been checked to the required standard outlined in DBS guidance.

• We can assure our customers we treat all data and information received is handled in the strictest confidence, and all information received retained in connection with DBS checks complies with the provision of the Data Protection Act 2018, incorporating GDPR. • DBS Cymru is annually audited by the DBS, who review our service and policies. At our last audit (July 2023) we met all the criteria to remain operating as a registered umbrella body to an excellent standard.
